48 V is emerging as a safe-to-touch alternative voltage level for electric vehicles (EVs). Using low- instead of high-voltage drive train reduces isolation efforts, eliminates the risk shock, and thus increases system safety. In contrast, fast charging battery would require very high currents incompatible with widely established vehicle infrastructure. Instead employing additional on board power converters charging, concept reconfigurable presented. A small-scale prototype designed consisting eight lithium iron phosphate modules. series configuration, they can be charged at 460 up to 25 A. parallel peak discharge current 800 The MOSFET-based reconfiguration also operates module charge balancer during charging. cost overhead estimated 3% scaled-up full size EV.
